11+ for Year 4 and Year 5

Exceptional 11+ preparation, from start to finish.

For parents of Year 4 and Year 5 pupils. We help you decide which schools suit your child, when to start, and what preparation is genuinely needed, then coordinate it with care.

Year 4

Understanding the options

Year 4 is a good time to look at schools without pressure and to understand where your child is now.

  • A first conversation with Charlie or Tabitha about your hopes and your child
  • An initial assessment where appropriate
  • A considered long list of schools, and how their entry processes differ
  • Gentle groundwork in reading, vocabulary, number and reasoning if useful

Year 5

Focused preparation

In Year 5 the shortlist settles and preparation follows the specific assessments those schools use.

  • A settled shortlist and a timetable for registrations and assessments
  • Tailored English, maths and reasoning preparation, where relevant
  • Practice under realistic conditions
  • Interview preparation for schools that interview

How support works

Advice first, teaching where it helps

Charlie and Tabitha coordinate support with our specialists. Every family speaks with Charlie during the process. Where teaching will make a difference, we match your child with a tutor chosen for their subject knowledge, experience and fit with your child, and keep the preparation under review.

Schools do not all use the same tests or timelines, so we never assume a single approach. Preparation is shaped by your shortlist.

Understanding your child

A fuller picture of how they think

Our specialist consultants assess each child's cognitive profile, exploring spatial awareness, analytical reasoning and creative thinking alongside academic attainment. Understanding how a child thinks and learns helps us recommend suitable schools and tailor preparation to their strengths and areas for development.

London group classes

In-person preparation for 11+ pre-tests

We offer in-person group classes in London for 11+ pre-tests. These complement individual preparation, with teaching shaped around the relevant assessments. Enquire with your child's year group and the schools you are considering to discuss current classes and availability.

Specialist school knowledge

Experience of competitive school entrance

Our specialists bring admissions success and detailed knowledge of preparation for St Paul's, St Paul's Girls' School, City of London, Godolphin & Latymer, Latymer Upper, Emanuel, Harrow and Eton. Each school has its own entry points, assessments and expectations; our advice and teaching reflect those differences.

Entry routes differ by school and may include 11+, 13+ and earlier pre-tests. Past success does not guarantee an offer, and we are independent of the schools named.

Questions parents ask

When should we start thinking about the 11+?

Many families begin in Year 4, when there is time to look at schools calmly and understand a child's starting point. Year 5 is when preparation usually becomes more focused, because many assessments take place in the autumn of Year 6. Each school sets its own timetable, so it is worth checking dates for your shortlist early.

Do all schools use the same 11+ test?

No. Schools and consortia use different assessments, which may include English, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, online tests, interviews and reports from a current school. Preparation should follow the schools you are actually applying to.

Does my child need a tutor?

Not always. We start by understanding your child and the schools you have in mind. Where teaching will help, we recommend a specialist tutor and oversee the work; where it will not, we will say so.

How do we begin?

Send an enquiry. Charlie or Tabitha will arrange a conversation to understand your goals and your child's needs, then recommend next steps, which may include an initial assessment.
